Plan to establish Issues, Etc program independent of KFUO.

PLAN PURPOSE

The intent of this initiative is to establish a syndicated radio program (Internet, terrestrial, satellite radio) to replace the Issues, Etc. program which was canceled by KFUO Radio on 3/18/2008.

Background

The radio program Issues, Etc. was a "Christ centered, Cross focused" radio program aired by KFUO-AM in St. Louis Missouri and simulcast on the Internet, Monday through Friday, 2:PM - 5:PM Central Time. There was also a nationally syndicated one hour program that originated from KFUO Sunday evenings at 9:PM Central time.

Host Todd Wilken and numerous regular guests as well as many special guests discussed theology from the Lutheran perspective, offering commentary, analysis, and thought provoking conversation on a wide variety of topics from current events in the news to reflection on serious theological issues affecting the church. It truly was a beacon of truth in a land of theological confusion.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, citing "programatic and business reasons," the program was unexpectedly canceled from the KFUO line-up and its host and producer were dismissed. All indications are that the program was fiscally solvent and well liked by both Lutheran and Non-Lutheran listeners. There are no indications of impropriety on the part of the producer or host of the program that would necessitate their removal.

The show had significant financial support from congregations and individuals for the weekly Sunday broadcast which was carried on radio stations throughout the country. The weekday broadcast was popular in the St. Louis area and had a substantial Internet listenership as well.

Organizational Meeting

An initial organizational meeting is scheduled for 8:00 PM Eastern Time for those interested in working to re-establish this important program both on the Internet and on terrestrial radio.

Organizational Structure

In the short term, we need to establish a small team (3-4 individuals) to act as initial coordinators until a more formal organizational structure is developed. This item will be discussed at the first meeting.

TASKS

Below is an INITIAL task list. There are undoubtedly many other tasks, and many sub-tasks that need to be undertaken, but these are the big ones. If any others come to mind, use the "DISCUSS THIS PAGE" button on the left menu bar (you must be a registered user to post to this site).

Immediate (TIMELINE: 1-2 weeks)

• Establish initial "coordination team" (TIMELINE: 1-2 days)
• Investigate with the former producer and host of Issues, Etc. to determine their interest in continuing the program. (TIMELINE: 1-2 days)
• Determine Items/Personnel/Services Needed
• Determine initial budgetary needs
• Establish a temporary financial structure (perhaps a designated fund with an LC--MS congregation) to accept donations, make necessary purchases, pay salaries, etc.
• Contact/coordinate previous "Issues, Etc." supporters to make them aware of the effort to establish a replacement program and make them aware of funding needs.
• Gain commitment from key personnel (esp. Todd and Jeff)
• Establish preliminary calendar and "roll out" date
• Establish a temporary working studio
• Establish an Internet Radio presence
• GO LIVE!
• Establish distribution mechanism for Sunday affiliates

Medium Term

• Negotiate with The LC--MS/KFUO for rights to previous Issues, Etc. program materials and program name
• Establish an independent corporation (501.c.3 - or similar) to accept donations, pay expenses and salaries

Long Term

• Continue efforts at gaining Sunday affiliates
• Establish distribution mechanism for Daily program
• Apply for RSO Status with The LC--MS (?)
